Comparing insurance in the UAE

Insurance in the UAE runs on rules, not guesswork. Motor cover starts at third-party liability, which is required to register and drive, set by the CBUAE unified motor policy. Health insurance is mandatory for residents in Dubai under the DHA and in Abu Dhabi under the DoH, with the obligation sitting on the sponsor or employer. Home, life and travel cover are optional, though landlords, lenders and some visas ask for them.

The cheapest policy is rarely the best value. Two car policies at the same price can differ on excess, agency repair and geographical cover; two health plans can differ on network, annual limit and co-pay. Compare the cover and the exclusions, not just the headline figure. Start with car insurance, health insurance or read how Takaful works, then request a quote when you are ready.

Insurance in the UAE: common questions

The questions UAE residents ask most, answered plainly.

Is car insurance mandatory in the UAE?

Yes. At least third-party liability motor insurance is a legal requirement to register and drive a vehicle in the UAE, set out in the CBUAE unified motor vehicle insurance policy. Comprehensive cover, which also pays for damage to your own car, is optional but widely chosen. You cannot renew vehicle registration without valid cover.

Is health insurance mandatory in the UAE?

Health insurance is mandatory for residents in Dubai, where the obligation sits with the sponsor or employer under Dubai Health Authority rules, and in Abu Dhabi under Department of Health rules. Requirements differ by emirate. Check your emirate's regulator for the current minimum cover and who must provide it.

What is the difference between third-party and comprehensive car insurance?

Third-party liability pays for injury or damage you cause to other people, their passengers and their property. It does not pay to repair your own car. Comprehensive cover does both: third-party liability plus damage to your own vehicle, usually with options for fire, theft, agency repair and roadside assistance. Limits and add-ons vary by insurer.

What is Takaful insurance?

Takaful is a cooperative model of insurance built to follow Islamic finance principles. Members pay a contribution, not a premium, into a shared pool that pays claims, and the operator manages the fund for a fee. Cover is open to anyone. Any Shariah claim rests on the provider's own Shariah board, not on this site.

Does InsureCompare.ae give financial advice?

No. InsureCompare.ae is an information and comparison service, not a regulated adviser, and is not licensed by the CBUAE to give insurance advice. We show cover, terms and indicative figures from named sources so you can compare. Any premium shown is indicative and quote-driven; confirm the price and terms directly with the insurer before you buy.
